Kitchen Remodel: How to Best Approach the Finishing Touches

If have just remodeled your kitchen, or are considering it, then your job still isn’t done once you have made a decision on the appliances and flooring. You still need to add those finishing touches to make your kitchen have the look and practicality that you want. However, it can be hard sometimes to figure out what to do. So here are some great ideas to help you finish your kitchen project and start enjoying it.

Don’t think you have to go with standard, boring lighting. Lighting is one of the key parts of any home, especially in the kitchen. From setting the mood for a romantic dinner, to having plenty of light when you are trying to cook, you want your lights in the kitchen to be versatile and beautiful. Get dimmer switches and install them at the outlets to ensure that you have complete control over the level of lights in the kitchen at all times.

Upgrade Your Benches and Counters

The surfaces you are going to be using the most in your kitchen are your counters and any benches for seating. Don’t put up with materials that don’t look amazing or that scratch easily. Use laminate benchtops so that you can have a great looking surface that doesn’t get scratches easily. It is also great for cooking as it won’t burn when hot dishes or pans are resting on it.

The fake tile look is out and wood is in. If you can’t find high quality wood within your budget, don’t worry. There are plenty of flooring options that use stains to make up for an inferior wood product. As a last ditch effort, use faux wood flooring, as it’s better than faux tiles.

You want the paint in your kitchen to be relatively neutral. However, if you have a very strong theme going on, feel free to get a little crazier. If you have kids, consider setting aside a small portion of the kitchen and using blackboard paint so they can stay buys while you’re cooking without interrupting you.

When it comes to remodeling your kitchen, there is a lot on your mind. However, one thing you should not forget is the finishing touches. It might be tempting to call it a day after your main appliances are in place. But if you add those extras in that are mentioned above, your kitchen will take on a whole new life that you can cherish for as long as you live in the home
