Unlimited Summer Fun at the Houston Zoo
This summer, reconnect with nature at the Houston Zoo! Home to more than 6,000 animals, the zoo connects communities with animals, inspiring action to save wildlife.
All summer long, the zoo is featuring a special exhibit, Nature Connects: Art with LEGO Bricks Presented by Coca-Cola. Kids and adults alike will be amazed at the incredible detail of these giant animal sculptures, all built with tens of thousands of LEGO bricks. And for parents, the best part is – these LEGO pieces aren’t left behind to be stepped on! All LEGO fans are sure to love Nature Connects!
Giant LEGO brick sculptures aren’t the only new thing to see this summer; the McNair Asian Elephant Habitat expansion also recently opened to the public.
Accommodating the zoo’s growing elephant herd, this expansion includes a 6,500-square-foot barn custom-built to house the bull elephants. To complement the barn, the brand-new habitat features a boardwalk with an unobstructed view of the elephants’ expanded yard and up-close look into their 160,000-gallon infinity pool. This expansion also highlights the zoo’s global commitment and ongoing work to save elephants in the wild.
The zoo is filled with places to cool off and fun ways to chill out all summer long thanks to TXU Energy Presents Chill Out at the Houston Zoo. Thirteen indoor, air-conditioned buildings provide a reprieve from the summer sun. Guests can refresh indoors and watch the otters swim in the Carruth Natural Encounters Building and be mesmerized by the tranquil Japanese sea nettles swimming in the Kipp Aquarium.
The kiddos can even make a splash at the Kathrine McGovern Water Play Park. This hot weather oasis includes a friendly, colorful sea serpent, a tall fill-and-spill water tree, and a variety of fountains, jets, and misters.
And the fun doesn’t end there! The zoo is open late on Fridays through August 11 for Cool Nights Presented by TXU Energy. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. guests can enjoy added music and fun family activities that are sure to entertain kids and adults alike! All activities are included in Zoo admission and are free for Zoo Members.
